Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name… or learns it really quickly. That’s Funky Monkey Wine Company in downtown Orlando. As we spoke to the owner, we explained to us how they wanted Funky Monkey to be a local haunt, somewhere that you walk in and you feel like you just discovered it. That’s exactly what it is. The entire time we were there, we kept saying how this would be our new place to go and just hang out. The food was so fresh and delicious. Our waitress recommended the Sea Monkey sushi roll and it rivaled some of the best sushi we’ve had in NYC. Speaking of waitresses, ours, Kristy was phenomenal. She was so helpful suggesting wine pairings for the food and we had a blast bantering with her. By the time we left, we felt like Funky Monkey wasn’t just a restaurant, but that it was our restaurant.
Some tips:
- Make a reservation before you go and leave plenty of time to find parking
- Mondays are 1/2 off select sushi rolls all day
- They are opening a new Funky Monkey in Pointe Orlando right off I-Drive, so even if you don’t venture to the downtown location, you can still experience Funky Monky.
- Funky Monkey takes part in Magical Dining Month, so 3 courses were only $20!

You should go have a drink at Wally’s Mills Avenue Liquors across the street from Funky Monkey, which is even more like cheers, and Will’s Pub a block way.
